The Story of Britain
From the Romans to the Present: A Narrative History

As one reviewer put it, this is "a beautifully written story, a box of delights, a treasure trove: final proof of truth’s superiority over fiction."—Andrew Roberts

This is a very enjoyable narrative of British history and is packed with anecdotes about British scientists, explorers, soldiers, and artists--in addition to political leaders. From King Alfred . . . to the world wars, she reminds the readers of what made Britain one of the greatest examples of democracy and freedom.
It is also filled with delightful b&w illustrations. I'm always a sucker for pictures! This is a fun read.
